To perform a Quick Calibration of a dual-column machine with CNC assistance

  1. Click Tools tab > Simulator panel > Dual Column > Machine Position Calibration.

The Calibration Mode page of the Dual Column Calibration Wizard is displayed.

  2. Select Quick and click Next. The Probing Method page is displayed.
  3. Select CNC-assisted to measure the calibration items in CNC mode and click Next. The Basic Setup page is displayed.
  4. In the Anchored to list, select the column you want to use to determine the machine datum.
  5. If you want to view or change the transformation matrix created by the original calibration:
    1. Click Transform. The Transformation Matrix dialog is displayed.
    2. Edit the transformation and click OK to close the dialog and save your changes.
  6. Click Next. The Definition of Calibration Objects page is displayed.
  7. Click to create the items that you want to use to calibrate the columns. Specify one or more calibration items that can be probed from both columns.
  8. Click Next. The Default Calibration Sphere Geometry page is displayed.
  9. Enter the details of the largest calibration sphere you want to use:
    1. In the Diameter box, enter the diameter of the sphere.
    2. In the Stem diameter box, enter the diameter of the sphere's stem.
    3. In the Direction from the base to the sphere list, specify the vector from the base to the sphere.
  10. Click Next. The wizard displays a message telling you to switch to column 1.
  11. Click Next. The Default CNC Settings for Probing Spheres page is displayed.
  12. Enter the default probing details for the column:
    1. In the Initial contact list, specify the direction from which you will manually probe the sphere.
    2. In the Number of points box, enter the number of points to be probed automatically. You must specify at least four points.
  13. Click Next. The Default Probe Direction for CNC Probing page is displayed.
  14. Specify the default vector from the probe head hinge point to the stylus tip.
  15. Click Next. The Measuring page is displayed.
  16. For each entry in the list of spheres:
    1. If you want to override the measurement settings for this sphere, click the Sphere Geometry, Sphere Probing, or Probe Direction buttons.
    2. Manually probe a point on the sphere. The Run button is enabled.
    3. Click Run to probe the sphere. When probing is complete, the coordinates of the sphere's centre are displayed in the Measuring status list.
  17. When you have probed all the spheres in the list, click Next. The wizard displays a message telling you to switch to column 2.
  18. Repeat steps 11 to 16 for column 2, making sure to probe the spheres in the same order as that used for column 1.
  19. When you have probed all the spheres in the list, click Next. The Result page is displayed.
  20. The Deviation box displays the positional difference when the calibration measurements are applied to the original transformation matrix. Click:
    • Show Calculated Matrix to display the adjusted transformation matrix.
    • Back to reprobe the calibration items if the deviation is outside acceptable limits.
    • Finish to accept the results and close the wizard.
