Load type (SANS 10162-1:2011)

Use this option to define the character of loads applied to a bar according to the South Africa SANS 10162-1:2011 code. There are two ways to access the option:

  • Click the relevant icon in the Load Type field in the Manual Verification dialog,
  • Click the relevant icon in the Load Type field in the Member Definition - Additional Parameters dialog.

The following dialog displays:

Determine the character of the applied loads in one or both planes of the member cross-section axes according to the requirements imposed by the code on calculation of code coefficients (for buckling, and lateral buckling). Choose load cases recognized in the case of the indicated steel code.

During automatic calculations, the character of the load changes with the changes of load case. For automatic calculations, the default option is Constant Moment, Linearly. After a calculation case is selected manually, or the value of internal forces is defined by the user, the character of the load can be exactly determined.
