The geographic location specifies the model's real-world location using global coordinates.
Specify the geographic location using the Location tool
on the Manage tab. You can select the nearest city from a list or use an Internet mapping service to specify a street address or the latitude and longitude.

Revit uses the geographic location as follows:
- To define the location of the model on the Earth's surface.
When you import or link models, Revit can use the geographic location to position the models relative to one another.
- To generate location-specific shadows for views that use them, such as solar studies and walkthroughs.
- As a basis for weather information used for heating and cooling loads analysis and energy analysis.
When you log in as an Autodesk subscriber and specify a location, you can select a nearby weather station to use in analyses.
The geographic location does not affect the following:
- The project address that displays in the title blocks of sheets. See Enter Project-Specific Information for Title Blocks.
- The project base point
- The survey point
