Set up 3D views for use as Data Exchanges once the model is published to Autodesk Docs.
Overview
In general a Data Exchange gives you a way to share portions of a model with a collaborator so they don't need to download the entire model to accomplish their work. The steps of the work flow are as follows:
- Set up 3D Views in Revit.
- Publish the model to Autodesk Docs.
- Create Data Exchanges from 3D views. (Autodesk Docs).
- Preview Data Exchanges and set up subscriptions to the folders to monitor changes. (Autodesk Docs).
- Load Data Exchanges in the target application. (Target application)
Setup 3D Views in Revit
Create 3D views of the model that contain the geometry needed for a Data Exchange. Limit the geometry included in the view with a section box and by turning off the visibility of categories in the view. For more information on limiting geometry in a 3D view see the following topics:
- Create an Orthographic 3D View
- Change the Extents of a 3D View
- Control the Visibility of Elements in a View
Create View Set for Publishing
Once specific views are created for use in creating Data Exchanges, create a view set for publishing to the cloud. Making a view set makes it easy to update the views used in the Data Exchanges as the model is changed. Once a significant change has taken place republish the set to the cloud.
Publish the Model
The final step in Revit to create a Data Exchange is to publish the model to Autodesk Docs. Once the model is published, the remaining steps of a Data Exchange take place on Autodesk Docs and the target application for the Data Exchange.
