Using IFC Files

You can use information from Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) files in Revit LT models.

To use IFC files in a model, do one of the following

  • Open (import) the IFC file in Revit LT to create a new model that uses the IFC data as a starting point. Later changes to the original IFC file are not reflected in the Revit model.
  • Link the IFC file to an existing Revit model to reference its information for additional design work. The model can be updated to reflect later changes to the original IFC file.

Revit LT supports the import of IFC files based on the following International Alliance for Interoperability (IAI) data exchange standards: IFC4, IFC2x3, IFC2x2, and IFC2x.

Before opening or linking an IFC file, you can specify the template to use, load a file that maps IFC classes to Revit categories, and manually override Revit categories for IFC classes.
