Workflow: Pattern Components

Create and apply parametric component families with this workflow.

In most cases parametric pattern components go through several design iterations before meeting the desired project requirements. Designing the pattern component is very similar to sketching a conceptual design mass. You use the same modeling tools that are used to design forms, though with the following limitations:
  • There is only one floor plan (level) view, which is defined by the pattern tile grid.
  • There are no elevation views.
  • There are no default vertical reference planes, though reference planes can be defined by geometry.
  1. Open a new family using a Generic Model Pattern Based template.
  2. Determine the tile pattern for the component.
  3. Sketch and extrude geometry onto the pattern grid using the reference points and lines of the grid.
  4. (Optional) Add adaptive points if the component is to be an adaptive component.
  5. Load the pattern component family into a conceptual mass.
  6. Apply the pattern component family to a divided or patterned surface.
