FAQs - Revit Issues Add-In

This topic lists frequently asked questions regarding the Issues add-in.

1. What is happening and when?

On December 14 2020, Autodesk launched the Revit LT Issues add-in. With this add-in, Revit LT designers can easily access and visualize issues in the opened Revit LT model that were created in Autodesk Docs-connected applications such as Model Coordination or Navisworks, for example, during the coordination process. Updates to the Autodesk Docs Issue can be made directly in Revit LT.

2. How do I install the Revit LT Issues add-in?

The add-in can be downloaded through https://manage.autodesk.comProducts and ServicesUpdates or through Autodesk Access.

3. What is needed to use the Revit LT Issues add-in?
4. Does the Revit LT Issues add-in consume tokens?

No tokens will be consumed.

5. Which Revit LT releases are supported?

Revit LT 2021 and later.

6. Which languages are available for the add-in?

The add-in is available in all languages supported by Revit LT.

7. Which issues are supported in the add-in?

Issues created in Revit models in both BIM 360 and Autodesk Construction Cloud platform projects are supported. The issues can be created in any BIM 360 or Autodesk Construction Cloud platform application, including Docs, Build, Model Coordination, and also in Navisworks.

Note: Issues created in Revit models hosted in the Plans folder in BIM 360 are not supported.

8. Can new issues be created in Revit LT using the add-in?

Currently, the add-in does not support the creation of issues.

9. Will there be a similar functionality in AutoCAD and Civil 3D?

Yes, an AutoCAD-based issues add-in is planned, which will also support AutoCAD vertical products like Civil3D.

10. Does the Revit LT Issues add-in support 2D sheets and views?

For models hosted in BIM 360, issues created on 3D views are fully supported. For issues created on 2D views or sheets, the pushpins are not displayed, but the issues are listed in the Issues panel.

For models hosted in Autodesk Docs, issues created on 3D views are fully supported. For Issues created on 2D Drawing Sheets, pushpins will be displayed, but there is no support for issues created on other 2D view and sheet types such as column schedules, legends, reports, view plans, section views, drafting views and table views.

11. Does the Revit LT Issues add-in enable me to visualize the location and camera position in which the issue was originally created in Autodesk Docs?

Yes. When you click an issue push-pin on a 3D view in Revit LT, the original camera position and zoom factor is loaded, and the associated element is highlighted.

There are some limitations:

  • The elements are not isolated.

  • Colors and transparencies are not applied.

  • Section planes are not applied.

  • The projection will not change between perspective and orthographic/isometric.

  • If the current model geometry or views are different to those at issue creation, it may not be possible to replicate the visualization experience entirely.

12. There might be multiple published versions of a Cloud Workshared model or Cloud Model for Revit LT. Is it possible to select any version, or only the latest published WIP/Shared model?

No, the add-in does not support selecting a specific model version. All issues from the latest published version are loaded, which will include issues from previous versions.

13. Are issues linked to element IDs?

If a model object was selected during issue creation, the issue will be linked to the element ID. If a model object was not selected or was being sectioned before issue creation, then it won't be linked. Additionally, non-model objects such as annotations and legends can't be linked to issues.

14. What happens if an element ID changes?

The Revit LT Issues add-in supports object highlighting, which relies on element IDs. If an element ID changes, the issue push-pin would still be in the correct position, but the affected object would no longer be highlighted.

15. What if I have multiple Revit LT models open?

Only issues relevant to the currently open or active Revit LT model are shown in the Revit LT canvas and Issues panel. Switching between Revit LT models will reload the issues that are displayed.

16. Does the Issues add-in only show issues from the active model, or all issues assigned to me?

The add-in displays all issues on the active model based on your permissions (individual, role, and team). To see issues assigned to you, use the filters in the Issues panel.

17. Can I see issues from other 3D views?

The Issues panel will always display a list of all the issues for the model but pushpins are only shown for the current/active view. if a user clicks on an issue in the Issues panel that isn't in the current view, it will switch to that view in Revit LT.

18. What happens if the service is down? Does the Revit LT Issues add-in support offline mode?

Users won't be able to view and interact with the Revit LT Issues add-in panel if the service is down.

19. On which version(s) of the model in Autodesk Docs can we use the Issues add-in?

The add-in does not support selecting a specific model version. Only issues in the latest published version are loaded, which also includes issues from previous versions.

20. How does the Revit LT Issues add-in work with display styles in Revit LT?

Display styles are not supported, for example dark and light modes are not supported for the Issues panel.

21. Are the issue push-pins part of the model?

In Revit 2022, the pushpins are overlaid images and behave the same way as in BIM 360, Autodesk Docs and Navisworks.

In Revit 2021, the pushpins are represented as geometry and will behave the same way as other model geometry:

  • They are displayed in wireframe when the view is wireframe
  • They can be sectioned if cut by any section planes that are applied

22. How does the Revit LT Issues add-in work with model versions?

The add-in will include all issues that have been created for all published versions of the model up to the most recent.

23. Is it possible to change the color of the issue push-pins?

No, the color of a pushpin indicates the status of an issue. Selecting an issue in the Issues panel will enlarge the pushpin but does not allow for any customization.

24. Can I view issues from linked models, or multiple models?

Yes, if the other models are also available in the Autodesk Docs project then the issues from those models can be viewed by opening the Associated Models window (available from the Issues menu on the ribbon bar) and selecting the required models from the project tree.

25. Do I need to resolve an issue in the same view it was created in?

No, you can resolve issues in any view, using the Issues panel.

26. Does the Revit LT Issues add-in highlight the element/object associated with an issue? Is the object selected so it can be edited?

When an issue is selected by clicking a push-pin, or clicking an issue in the Issues panel, the element linked to the issue will be highlighted.

27. Can I modify elements associated with issues in a 3D view when the Issues panel is open?

Yes, but you may find it useful to switch the push-pins off using the toggle button in the panel.

28. If I move an element associated with an issue, does the issue pushpin move as well?

No, the push-pin position will be not be updated if you move an element.

29. What happens if the element an issue is linked to gets deleted? Will the issue be deleted as well?

No, the issue will not disappear. A message will be displayed to explain that the associated element is not available.

30. Can I visualize issues in Revit LT that have been published using the Navisworks Issues add-in? For example, an issue created in Navisworks on a corresponding Revit LT model and vice versa?

This depends on the Navisworks file format:

  • NWD files - No, because the issue is linked to the NWD file, and not to the embedded/merged RVT file.

  • NWF files, or files opened from coordination spaces in Model Coordination - Yes, as long the issue pushpin has been placed directly on a Revit LT model. When viewing clashes in Model Coordination, this means that the Revit LT model must be the primary model when an issue is created. For issues created in other Model Coordination workflows, or in Navisworks, it will depend which model the pushpin was placed on. For models stored in BIM 360, it is also a requirement that the Revit model is stored in the Project Files folder in Document Management.

31. When an issue is created in Model Coordination, how does it determine which Revit LT model and element to attach the issue to?

This depends on which Revit LT model the issue pushpin is placed on. In Model Coordination, this will always be the primary model when viewing clashes. For issues created in other Model Coordination workflows, or in Navisworks, it will depend which model the pushpin was placed on.

32. Is there any support for BCF file formats and processes?

The Revit LT Issues add-in is based on theAutodesk Docs issue management functionality. Currently, the Revit LT Issues add-in supports BCF export.

33. Is it possible to load issues from other file types e.g. Navisworks files, using the Revit LT Issues add-in?

No, only issues captured on Revit LT models can be loaded and visualized.

34. My file contains a view called Revit_Issues_Addin_View. I did not create this view, where has it come from and what is it for?

The add-in will automatically create this view when a suitable view for the selected issue cannot be found in the currently active Revit model. Using this view allows the Issues Addin for Revit to display pushpins for many more issues which otherwise would not be easy to locate.

35. Why do I still get an error saying "this issue cannot be found" when trying to display issues on the Revit_Issues_Addin_View?

There are still some cases where it may not be possible to display a pushpin for the selected issue. For example, the element on the model may have been deleted or for some other reason can no longer be recognised in the Revit model. In addition, the add-in cannot display issues for 2D sheets in Revit.

36. Why is the pushpin not visible on the Revit_Issues_Addin_View in Revit 2021?

Pushpin spheres are represented as part of the model in Revit 2021 which can make them less visible under some circumstances. For example, the pushpin may be embedded within the model and may require navigation into the model. The pushpin display for these versions of Revit is also affected by the view's settings - the pushpin may be easier to see if a more appropriate view style such as Shaded is applied.
