SLS Criteria for Shear Lag

Go to Field Help

Description

The requirement to check for the serviceability limit state provisions is determined in part by the restricting value of the effective breadth ratio given in clause 9.2.3.1 of BS 5400 Part 3. This in turn is derived in part from the load factors, and these are not included separately in the loading data. This form therefore enables the option for these to be specified and used in the derivation of the limiting effective breadth ratio, or for the limiting effective breadth ratio to be specified explicitly.

Separate load factors may be specified for load combination 1 and load combination 3.

With the 'Limiting Effective Breath Ratio' field set to Calculated, enter the load factor appropriate to the limit state and load type. The values entered will be used in conjunction with the applied moment values for each load type in the evaluation of the factor γfL, the formula for which is given in clause 9.2.3.1 of BS 5400 Part 3. Alternatively set the 'Limiting Effective Breath Ratio' field to User Defined and enter the required ratio in the adjacent field.

Limiting Effective Breath Ratio, ψR

To override the calculated value, set the 'Limiting Effective Breath Ratio' field to User Defined and enter the required ratio in the adjacent field.

Load Factors, γfL

With the 'Limiting Effective Breath Ratio' field set to Calculated, enter the load factor appropriate to the limit state and load type for each field. The values entered will be used in conjunction with the applied moment values for each load type in the evaluation of the factor γfL, the formula for which is given in clause 9.2.3.1 of BS 5400 Part 3.
