How to create scenes
The version you are using determines the number of scenes you can create. With the free version, you are limited to 3 scenes. You have unlimited scenes with the subscription version (as well as SketchBook on all supported devices and platforms).
Creating a scene
So, you've launched the app. If you have gone through the tutorial, the last screen has 2 options, Start now and see how these examples were created.
Tap
Start now to access the scene creation options.
Choose from the following options and follow any instructions that appear to create a new scene:
Take Photo
Use your camera to take a photo and use it for the background. At this point, you have the option to tap Retake to redo the photo or Use Photo and return to your scene. From here, select a brush and start creating the animated content or import an image.
SUCCESS: For Free users, when you select Take Photo, this option will be grayed out once you’ve created three saved scenes. If you delete a scene from My Scenes, this option will reappear until you have reached your three saved scenes limit.
Image
Access the photo album on your device, select an image, and use it for the background.

SketchBook TIFF
Access the SketchBook documents folder, which contain and SketchBook TIFFs. Tap any SketchBook TIFF to create a scene and load all the layers into the Layer Stack.
Backgrounds
Swipe up to scroll through different background images. Tap any of the background/template images to create a new scene and use your selection for the background.
Creating another scene
For the next scene you create, there are two ways to do it:
- Tap
and tap Take Photo, Image, SketchBook TIFF, or a background/template image to use to create a new scene.
- Tap
and select
to access the Gallery. From there, tap
. Swipe up to scroll through different background images.
