Release Notes for SketchBook Pro Win 10
Here are the new features, enhancements, and fixed issues in Autodesk SketchBook Pro Windows 10.
What's New
This section provides a list of what's been added in each update.
Windows 10 (v.5.1.0)
Here are the updates you’ll find in this version of SketchBook:
Windows 10 (v.5.0)
The following new tools can be found in this version of SketchBook:
Perspective Guides - Lay down perfect perspective in seconds with 1 point, 2 point, and 3 point perspective guides. Freely adjust vanishing points and horizon lines on, or beyond, the canvas. Enable the customizable perspective grid for additional help when drawing.
Curve Ruler - Bend this ruler to create curves you can't get with the Ellipse tool. Scale, move, and reset it.
Windows 10 (v.1.8.5)
We've made some pretty impactful improvements, the biggest being the removal of the trial. You'll also find a fix or two, as well.
There is no more trial version
The Blog location changed under our noses, but it has been updated. You can access it, once again, from within the app.
We created a new Welcome splash screen, so there's no longer a need to log in to use SketchBook.
The No Network message no longer appears prematurely, and we added a Back button to retry after a real network error.
We made clicking the Close button a bit easier for all popup dialogs (it was previously a bit small for fingers).
Windows 10 (v.1.8.0)
At Autodesk, we believe creativity starts with an idea. From quick conceptual sketches to fully finished artwork, sketching is at the heart of the creative process. You never know when a great idea will strike, so access to fast and powerful creative sketching tools is an invaluable part of any creative process.
For this reason, we are excited to announce that the fully featured version of SketchBook is now FREE for everyone!
Windows 10 (v.1.7)
VERSION 1.7 – THE ONE ABOUT DISTORT, COLOR ADJUSTMENT, AND TEXT TOOL: This update adds the ability to distort images, adjust color, and add text to your artwork in SketchBook Pro Windows 10. You can easily distort your image layers to fix perspective and proportions. You can now adjust colors with HSL sliders on a layer by layer basis. We also added the text tool with the ability to distort, rotate, and flip the text.
Windows 10 (v.1.6)
Minimum required OS: version 10.0.14393 (this is a free OS update from Microsoft)
VERSION 1.6 – THE ONE ABOUT THE COPIC® COLOR LIBRARY: This update brings the Copic Color Library to SketchBook Pro Windows 10. SketchBook is the only place to find the official Copic Color Library in digital drawing software. You will find a perfect color match to the professional artists’ marker of choice, and a complete palette of colors for both the illustration and design sets. SketchBook will also recommend a complementary color for the Copic color selected. To access the Copic Color Library, tap the square (UI Toggle) icon at the right of the toolbar and select Copic Color.
We’ve also added cut, copy, and paste, so you can select a layer or area within a layer, then cut or copy the content and paste it. Simply stated, simply used. Thanks for drawing with SketchBook – tell a friend!
Windows 10 (v.1.5)
VERSION 1.5 - THE ONE ABOUT SELECTION AND SYMMETRY. This update adds two highly requested features to SketchBook Windows 10. First, we added Radial Symmetry, with up to 16 sectors. Draw wheels, flowers, mandalas, and any other radially symmetrical shape with ease. We also added in the full suite of Selection tools, including freeform selection with the Lasso, Magic Wand, and Rectangle. You can add and subtract from the selected area, sample one or all layers, invert your selection, and move or transform the selected area. Thanks for drawing with SketchBook!
Windows 10 (v.1.4)
VERSION 1.4 - THE ONE ABOUT SURFACE STUDIO AND SURFACE DIAL. This update adds new features to take advantage of the PixelSense™ display on Surface Studio and support for the Surface Dial. Use your Surface Dial either on-screen or off-screen for a new way to undo and redo, as well as change brush size or opacity and color values. Use it for controlling previously-used setting. We've also added support for subscription purchase through your Microsoft account. Happy drawing!
Windows 10 (v.1.3)
VERSION 1.3 – THE ONE WITH EVEN MORE BRUSHES. We made another change to the brush engine and think you are really going to like it. In addition to fully customizable brushes with import and export, we added an additional element of customization: texture. Now, you can make brushes that incorporate both a texture and stamp shape for an infinite number of new combinations. We made a few to get you started and included them in this update. To find out how these work, check out the Windows 10 help for SketchBook and blog.
Speaking of brushes, we saw, in the reviews, some of you noticed that we give away a new free brush set every Monday. We're glad you like them! We also want to make it even easier to get them into SketchBook, so you can try them right away. With this update, Pro subscribers now have the SketchBook Extras panel, with the newest brush set available for download. Just click the set you want and BOOM – they’re in your Brush Palette.
Windows 10 (v.1.2)
VERSION 1.2 – THE ONE WITH THE BRUSHES (AND OTHER STUFF YOU ASKED FOR). This is the update that brings brush import, export, and customization to Windows 10. We've also added some cool 3-finger gestures for Undo and Redo. Let's start with brushes.
You can now create custom brushes, export them for others to try, and import brushes made by others. You can also add or delete brushes and/or brush groups from the Brush Palette. Making your own brushes and using other custom brushes can open up a whole new world of possibilities. Create custom icons for brushes, including texture icons. Find the new brush management features in the Brush Library. We think Windows 10 users are going to love this as much as our other SketchBook Pro Desktop users do. Happy Brush Day everyone!
We also saw a number of you asked for gesture control for Undo and Redo, so we added that, too. With 3-fingers, simply swipe to the left to undo or to the right to redo an action.
We've added a new Preferences dialog with options for enabling Pen Mode and gestures or resetting the app to the factory defaults. We also fixed the issue with not being able to exit the Color Picker or sketch in SketchBook after using ALT+TAB to switch apps on Windows.

EPISODE 1.1: THE RETURN OF PEN MODE. We read your reviews, talk to you on Facebook, chat with you on Twitch, and hear what you are saying. You wanted Pen Mode back, so it's back.
Also, we would like to wish a warm welcome (歡迎, 欢迎, ようこそ, 환영합니다, Bienvenidos, Bienvenue, Benvenuto, Bem-vindo, Добро пожаловать, Willkommen) to users who prefer the app in one of these languages: 繁體中文, 简体中文, 日本語, 한국어, Español, Français, Italiano, Português, Pусский, or Deutsch. SketchBook uses your device's language settings to display the app in that language. To display the app in a different language, close SketchBook, change the language used by your operating system, then reopen the app.
