Set Interface Preferences

The user interface of DWG TrueView contains various tools to view and convert drawings, measure objects in a drawing, and output a drawing to different formats.

When a drawing file is open, you can

  • Display of hide the menu bar by clicking Customize on the right side of the Quick Access toolbar and clicking Show Menu Bar.
  • Display or hide the ribbon by clicking Tools menu Show/Hide Ribbon.
  • Display or hide the command window by clicking Tools menu Command Line.
  • Display or hide the file tabs by clicking File Tabs on the Home tab User Interface panel of the ribbon.
  • Display or hide the layout tabs by clicking Layout Tabs on the Home tab User Interface panel of the ribbon.

Additional interface options are available on the Display tab of the Options dialog box. You can open the Options dialog box by clicking Application menu Options.

In most cases, the most important of these options is the ability to control the background color of the drawing area.

Limitations

There are several interface elements that are displayed on Options dialog box that are available in AutoCAD-based products but that do not function in DWG TrueView. For example, the Create Viewport in New Layouts option does not apply in DWG TrueView because you cannot create new layouts.

There are also settings that are saved in the originating AutoCAD or AutoCAD-based application that cannot be controlled from DWG TrueView. These include most system variable settings and includes the settings for elements such as

  • Whether the UCS (User Coordinate System) icon is displayed
  • The location and orientation of the UCS
  • Whether layout viewports are locked

To change these settings, the drawing needs to be modified and resaved in an AutoCAD-based product.

Procedures

To change the background color in a drawing

  1. From the Application menu , click Options.
  2. In the Options dialog box, Display tab, click Colors.
  3. In the Drawing Window Colors dialog box, select a context, such as 2D Model Space, and Uniform Background.
  4. Select the color you want to use from the Color list.
    To specify a custom color, select Select Color from the Color list.
    Note: To revert to the default colors, click one of the Restore buttons.
  5. Click Apply and Close.
  6. Click OK to close the Options dialog box.
