Create an end item

An end item is the top-level item in a project that has no parent item. It is the same as any other item in that it contains item attributes and may contain CAD files and drawings. An end item in one project may not be an end item in another project.

You can manually create a new end item in your project, copy an existing item from another bill of materials into your current project as an end item, or create an end item from your CAD plugin.

Note: If you intend on the majority of your items to contain CAD files and match the design structure, Autodesk recommends that you import your cBOM using the appropariate CAD plugin. Afterwards, you may add additional items to the eBOM in the BOM section of the project.

Create an end item

In the BOM (bm-upchain-web-mceclip0-02.png) section of the project:

  1. Click Add End Item at the top of the navigation pane.

    • The Add End Item window opens.
  2. Fill out all required fields:

    • Item Type: a classification for the item that determines how it is originally configured and what data is involved in managing the item. The item type determines the item number, depending on whether your Tenant Administrator has configured specific item numbering rules for different item types.
    • Item Name: a word or set of words by which the item is known or referred to.
    • Item Description: a more detailed description of the item.
  3. Click Create.

The item is created as an end item and appears in the navigation pane. Its status is set to Development and is at its first revision level.

Copy an item into your project as an end item

  1. Locate the item you want to copy into your project as an end item.
  2. Copy it to your clipboard.
  3. Navigate to the BOM (bm-upchain-web-mceclip0-02.png) section in the destination project.
  4. Click the more actions bm-item-actions-more-actions-icon-03 icon at the top of the navigation pane.
  5. Select Paste as End Item.

The item is copied as an end item in the project.

Tip: Check its Where Used tab in its item details pane to see that it now belongs to more than one eBOM/project.
