SOLIDWORKS: Manage Toolbox library parts with Upchain

The Upchain CAD plugin enables you to use toolbox components in your SOLIDWORKS assemblies. This enables you and your team to use the same toolbox components from a shared library and not have to worry about Upchain creating duplicate items.

Requirements

The tenant property import.library.parts must be enabled.

Register an assembly containing new toolbox components

  1. Insert one or more toolbox components into your SOLIDWORKS assembly, as needed.
  2. Change the configurations of the toolbox parts as desired.
  3. Register the assembly using the Create item function and complete the process.

Once registration is complete:

  • The toolbox part is added to Upchain as a purchased item.
  • The CAD file for the toolbox part is not uploaded into Upchain, but a record of its name appears in the cBOM section of the Documents tab in the item details.
  • The purchased item does not contain any manufacturer or manufacturer item number information.
  • The purchased item has a statuse of Released.
  • If a different configuration of the same toolbox part is registered into Upchain, it is registered to a different item with its own item number.

Use registered toolbox components

SOLIDWORKS toolbox part files are not stored in Upchain. Instead, it recognizes when the same toolbox part with the same configuration is being used again and simply inserts the existing item into the eBOM.

  1. Insert a toolbox component into your SOLIDWORKS assembly that already exists in Upchain.
  2. Refresh the cBOM view.

The cBOM view displays the toolbox part as the registered item that already exists in Upchain. Be sure to save or check in your assembly to update the eBOM with the toolbox item as well.
