Drawing Settings: Paths: Model

The Model settings are used to limit the turning or articulation capability of the vehicle. This may be used to create a more conservative analysis.

In the Calculation/Storage Interval section, the Nominal Interval setting is the distance between points on the path where reports are calculated and saved to the drawing. Reducing this value will make the program run slower because it is performing more calculations. Increasing this value will lose accuracy. This value may not be greater than 75% of the shortest wheelbase of any unit in the driven vehicle.

By default the program uses the steering and articulation limits defined in your vehicles. However, the settings on this tab allow you to temporarily change these limits. You can limit the allowable steering lock in three mutually inclusive ways. The program calculates new steering capabilities based upon the selected methods, and uses these new limits in all driving calculations, unless they exceed the physical vehicle capabilities.

  • Limit Steering To Percentage changes the steering capability of your selected vehicle as a factor of the actual maximum steering angle. Note that this is the only vehicle independent way to limit the steering angle.
  • Limit Steering To Angle sets a new maximum steering angle.
  • Limit Steering To Radius specifies the maximum steering angle in terms of an equivalent radius. The radius can be to the inside of the inner wheels, the outside of the outer wheels, or the centerline of the steered axle.
  • Limit Steering To Turn Rate specifies the maximum rate at which steering can be applied as a percentage of the actual maximum.
Important: The Maximum Steering Angle is limited to 90° or less.

You can limit the allowable articulation angles in two mutually inclusive ways. The program calculates new articulation capabilities for all units based upon this figure, and uses these new limits in all driving calculations unless they exceed the physical vehicle capabilities.

  • Limit Articulation To Percentage changes the articulation limits of your selected vehicle as a factor of the actual maximum articulation angle. Note that this is the only vehicle independent way to limit articulation angles.
  • Limit Articulation To Angle sets a new maximum articulation angle.

Overturns are when the vehicle turns sideways in the opposite direction prior to making a turn, or when the vehicle continues forwards and turns late. Both are performed to minimize cut-in. The Maximum Overturn Angle is a way to limit the severity of the overturn by restricting the angle of deviation from a "normal" path.
