If you’re working with Fusion projects, there are several scenarios in which you might need to transfer your projects or data from one Team or account to another. This can include projects, folders, and files, including models, drawings, and templates.
Causes:
When will I need to transfer Fusion projects to another team, account or hub?
You may need to move files when:
- Switching to a new email domain or address.
- The Fusion account is due to expire and the company provides a new subscription.
- Saving projects in a different account while maintaining the design history.
- Aligning all projects in one Team Hub, including combining projects from multiple accounts into a single Team Hub for easier ways of working.
- Maintaining version control and project timeline during transfers.
In this article, we’ll look at the different methods you can use for transferring projects from one account to another in Fusion.

How to transfer files and projects from one account to another in Fusion: Step by step
Note: If you don't have the required permissions, contact your Fusion Team Administrator to assign the correct role before you start.
Note: Different types of hubs have limitations in terms of project transfers. Newly-created hubs will be defined as collaborative editing hubs and do not utilize project transfer. The below steps are applicable to single-user storage and team hub environments.
Because there are a few different reasons and a variety of scenarios in which you might need to transfer projects, there are also several methods for doing so. We’ve outlined the most common below to help you complete your transfer.

How to transfer from Team Hub to Team Hub in Fusion
If you’re using an active Team Hub account and you’re looking to transfer a project to another active Team Hub account, utilize this method.
Before you get started:
- Verify you are an Admin in the source Team Hub (The Hub containing the data) and a Team Member or Admin in the destination Hub (The Hub that you would like to transfer the data to).
- If you are not an Admin of the source Team Hub, contact the Fusion Team Admin to transfer the project or assign the correct role.
- If you are not an Admin or Team Member of the destination Team Hub, contact the Fusion Team Admin to assign the correct role.
- If projects have Folder Level Permission, and you wish to use Project Transfer, fill out the form to enable this functionality before you begin.
To transfer projects or files:
- Navigate to your Fusion Hub in your web browser.
- Find the project that you want to transfer in the project list.
- Hover over the project to reveal the drop-down menu on the right-hand side.
- Select Transfer from the drop-down menu.
- Choose the destination Team Hub from the available options.
Important notes
- This transfer method preserves your complete design history and version control.
- Your project members may need updated permissions after you complete the transfer.
- Large project transfers may take several minutes to complete.
How to transfer from Single User Storage to Team Hub in Fusion
If you need to transfer projects from their existing place in someone’s personal storage (Single User Storage) into a team accessible place for collaboration (Team Hub), use this method.
Note: Only projects can be transferred between hubs using this method. To move specific files and folders, you can create projects and move files into them before transferring the projects to a different hub.
Transfer a single project from Single User Storage to a Team Hub
To transfer individual projects, you will need Admin or Team Member status for the destination hub (the hub that the data is being transferred to). Reach out to the Fusion Team Admin to assign the correct role.
- Access the Single-User Hub.
- Find the project you want to transfer.
- Click the drop-down arrow on the right of the project, and the "Transfer" option should appear.
- Click Transfer.
- Select the Team Hub you want to transfer the project to and complete the process.
Migrate data from Single User Storage to a Team Hub
As well as moving a single project from a Personal to a Team Hub, you can also migrate larger volumes of data using the below method:
- Access the Single-User Hub.
- Select any Project.
- Click the “Project Members” tab.
- Click the “Start update” button in the top banner.
- Continue through the guided process for moving all Projects to a Fusion hub.
Individual file export method
If the standard transfer methods above fail, you can also export individual files. To do so:
- Export project files individually from the source account.
- Save to local storage or a network drive.
- Import your files into the destination Team Hub.
Note: This method does not preserve design history or version control.
Change email address rather than transferring projects
Rather than using project transfer for single-user scenarios, you can also change the email address associated with the account:
- Change the account email through Autodesk Account settings.
- Update Team Hub associations to the new email address.
- Verify project access remains intact after email change.
Note: This method preserves all project data and team relationships.
Note: After you've successfully transferred your project, the final step is to make sure you’ve correctly configured access and permissions.
Transferring projects between accounts and Hubs in Fusion: Frequently asked questions
Can I transfer projects and files from an account that’s expired or has a different license?
You can still transfer files from accounts that have expired or have different licenses, but there are some considerations you need to make.
Transferring files and projects from an expired or unsubscribed account
When you need to transfer something from an expired or unsubscribed account that displays Basic Access, there are several steps to follow.
- Identify the account status: Expired accounts cannot initiate transfers independently.
- Invite the expired account to your active Team Hub as a team member.
- Use admin privileges from the active account to transfer projects from the expired account's Team Hub.
- Export individual files as a last resort if transfer options remain unavailable.
Transferring from a student to a commercial account
If your files are stored on a student account, you may need to make a few changes to ensure transfers work as intended.
- Upgrade the student license to a commercial Fusion subscription.
- Create or join a Team Hub under the commercial license.
- Use one of the above methods for transferring files, depending on the current project storage location.
- Verify team access and update project permissions for commercial team members.
Moving files from a Personal Use account
Transfers from Personal Use licenses can present challenges because these have some restrictions compared to commercial licenses. They:
- Can’t transfer projects to Team Hubs owned by different accounts.
- Don’t have team collaboration features included.
- Must upgrade to a commercial license for full transfer capabilities.
If you do need to transfer files from a Personal Use account, you need to:
- Export individual project files manually.
- Recreate projects in the destination Team Hub.
Note: This method does not preserve design history.
What does "not available with basic access" mean?
Only accounts with certain subscription levels can transfer files and projects in Fusion. If you don’t have the right level of subscription, you need to:
- Upgrade your account subscription to an active Fusion license.
- Use an active account to invite the expired account to the Team Hub.
- Contact your billing administrator to resolve any subscription issues.
- Export individual files if the transfer remains unavailable.
What do I do if my transfer recovery has failed?
If you have initiated a transfer and the process has started, but doesn’t finish, there are a few steps you can take:
- Check your network connectivity, then retry the transfer process.
- Verify the destination Team Hub has sufficient storage space.
- Contact Autodesk Support for server-side transfer issues.
- Use smaller batch sizes for large project collections.
- Clear your browser cache and restart the transfer process.
What do I do if I can’t see my transferred projects and files?
If your transferred projects or files aren’t visible in Fusion after completing the process, you should:
- Restart Fusion completely.
- Allow sync time for larger projects.
- Check internet connectivity for cloud synchronization.
- Refresh the Data Panel in Fusion.
- Verify the correct Team Hub is selected in the hub switcher.
