Create an Edge Connector

Create an edge connector using the Box and Shell commands, and position it correctly relative to the edges of the board. Initially create the edge connector so that its upper-right corner is coincident with the rightmost corner of the board (as oriented in the Home view). Then, move it 1.0 inch away from both the short and long edges of the board.

1. Position the cursor over the Edge Connector:1 heading in the browser. A circle (radio button) appears at the right side of the heading. Click this Activate Component radio button to make the chip the currently active component. In the next few steps, we add geometry to this part .
3. Click CREATE Box.
   1. Click on the top surface of the board to choose the drawing plane for the base rectangle.
   2. Click the rightmost corner of the board (as displayed in the Home View).
   3. Drag the mouse towards the opposite corner of the board to start a rectangle. One of the two dimensions is highlighted and the model appears as shown below.

      

      The rectangle needs to be 5.75 inches long x 0.4 inches wide. Enter the dimensions in the appropriate order, depending upon which field is highlighted first.
      • Type 0.4 for the width (Y dimension), which is parallel to the short edge of the board, and press Enter to lock in this dimension.
      • Type 5.75 for the length (X dimension), which is parallel to the long edge of the board, and press Enter to lock in this dimension.
   4. Press Enter to accept the base rectangle.
   5. In the BOX dialog box, type 0.5 in the Height field.
   6. Press Enter (or click OK) to complete the Box command.
4. Click MODIFY Shell.
   1. Click the top face of the edge connector. Be sure that you are selecting only the top face, not the entire solid part. The selection pre-highlighting indicates the extent of the selection. A shell thickness field appears with the thickness dimension highlighted.
   2. Type 0.15 and press Enter to complete the Shell command. The model should look like the following image:

      

5. Click the Edge Connector:1 heading in the browser to select this part. Both the heading and the part itself are highlighted in blue to indicate that the part is selected.
   1. Click MODIFY Move. The MOVE dialog box appears.
   2. Type -1 in the X Distance field.
   3. Type -1 in the Y Distance field.
   4. Press Enter (or click OK) to complete the Move command. The model should look like the following image:
