Lesson 2: Style Features

Use 3D models as styles and change the terrain style

In this lesson, you add a 3D model of a tree to a style catalog. 3D models can make your model more realistic. For example, you can create 3D models that look like actual buildings or real trees in your area. You can create 3D models in Autodesk 3ds Max or in another modeling program. Once a 3D model is in a style catalog, you can apply it to new or existing features as a style.

In this case, the 3D model is a tree, and you use it to style a sketched tree area. You can adjust many attributes of the 3D model after you import it. For example, you can flip or rotate it, or change its anchor point. In this example, you will scale the 3D model so it is a little larger.

You will also change the style of the terrain. Use the Model Settings dialog box to apply a color or material to the overall terrain of the model. In this example, you use a grass material.
