Defines a frame member to insert into an assembly.
Access: |
Ribbon: Design tab Frame panel Insert Frame |
Frame Member Selection specifies Standard, Family, Size, Material, and Appearance. If you select a single frame member before you start the dialog box, the default values of the selected frame member are used. Otherwise, the last-used values are the defaults. |
|
Standard |
Specifies an engineering standard for the frame member. |
Family |
Specifies the frame member family (shape). The standard you specify determines the selection list. Browse the Content Center for a family, and then select it. |
Size |
Specifies a size for the frame member. Expands and displays a list of frame members in the Content Center for the family selected. Select from the sizes listed from the family table. |
Material |
Specifies a material for the frame member. |
Appearance |
Specifies an appearance for the display of the frame member in the graphics window. |
Orientation determines how the frame member is aligned with the model, and shows a preview. Radio buttons position the frame member on the model and set the new orientation as the origin for vertical offset, horizontal offset, mirror, and rotation. Changes in orientation are reflected in the graphics window. |
|
Vertical Offset |
Specifies a vertical distance (positive or negative) between the frame member and the model. Zero positions the frame member so that it touches the edge of the model. |
Horizontal Offset |
Specifies a horizontal distance (positive or negative) between the frame member and the model. Zero positions the frame member so that touches the edge of the model. |
Angle |
Specifies an angle of rotation for the frame member for orientation with the model. |
Align |
Check the box to align a new frame to specified geometry (planar face, linear edge, work axis, work plane or sketch line). Some desired geometries may fail to be selected due to potential conflict, for example the frame cannot be aligned to the faces or edges of itself. When you check this box, Mirror Frame Member button is not available. |
Mirror Frame Member |
Mirrors the frame member in the opposite direction and shows a preview. Note: This option is not available if you check the Align box.
|
Custom Point | Enabled if an alternate insertion point was defined during authoring. Selected by default. You can change the selection to any insertion point. |
Placement determines how frame members are positioned on the assembly. |
|
Insert Members on Edges |
Places the frame members on the edge or edges you select. The selected segments can be a 2D line, 3D line segment, arc, or spline. You can select multiple edges to create several frame members or one. Selection in a continuous loop links the orientation of frame members. |
Insert Members Between Points |
Places the frame member between the start and endpoints you select. Note: You cannot select both edges and endpoints to place a frame member.
|
Select Edge or Starting Point |
Selects an edge or a starting point. Each selection adds that object to the selection set. For multiple selections, use the context menu options instead: Multi-Select - Selects multiple objects using a window. Drag left to right to select all entities within the window. Drag right to left to select all entities the window crosses. Hold down CTRL while dragging to remove the window selection from the current selection set. Chain Select - Selects a series of lines connected at the end points. Chain select stops where there are multiple lines at an end point. Select the next line to continue the chain. Sketch Select - Selects all lines in a sketch. Choose a line in the graphics window, or select the sketch in the browser. Only valid objects are added to the selection set. |
Select Ending Point |
Selects an ending point. |
Merge |
Merges resulting members into one frame member. Note: If you create frame members using multiple edges and the Merge feature, you cannot apply automatic end treatments to them with Frame Generator commands. Instead, you can apply cuts using standard modeling commands within Autodesk Inventor to edit the part directly.
|
Prompt For File Name |
When selected, after you click Apply or OK, a dialog box displays with default names and file locations. You can accept or change the defaults. The file naming cell enables a browser. Note: You can copy and paste in the Frame Member Naming dialog box. If you cancel, name changes and the frame members are created with default names.
|
Get Frame Member’s Part Number from Content Center | When selected, updates the part number of the frame member to sync with Content Center. Selected by default. When cleared, the part number does not update, and you can enter a custom part number. |
Select Centerline |
Enables adding centerlines to the selection set. Clear the check box to exclude centerlines. |
Select Construction |
Enables adding construction lines to the selection set. Clear the check box to exclude construction lines. |
OK | Applies your current selections, inserts the frame member to your selected geometry entities, and closes the dialog box. |
Apply | Applies your current selections, but the dialog box remains open and you can select other geometry entities to insert frames. |
