IGES Import Options dialog box

Specifies the import criteria to apply to IGES files selected for the import task.

Specifies the data types to import and how data is grouped in Autodesk Inventor. The file type selected for the task determines the available options. A translation report is generated that includes:

You can save the report to disk in an HTML format and embed the report in your new part or assembly document.

Access:

With one or more IGES files selected in the Import Task dialog box, click Options.

Save Options
Specifies how components are saved.
Save Components During Load Select to save imported components to disk automatically after they are translated. Saves part and assembly files to the paths specified in the destination edit boxes that are in the same grouping. If you save files, existing files with the same names are moved to the Old Versions folder.
Translation Report
Specifies whether to embed the Translation Report or save it to disk.
Embed in document Select to generate a Translation Report and embed it in the part or assembly document. This option is selected by default.
Save to Disk Select to generate a Translation Report and save it to disk.
Entity Types to Import
Select to import the entities: Solids, Surfaces, Wires, Points.
Data Organization

Specifies how data is created in the Inventor file.

Import Assembly as Single Part Select to import an assembly as a part. Not available if Import Multiple Solid Pat as Assembly is selected.
Import Assembly as Single Part Specifies how parts are recreated in the Inventor model. Available only when Import Assembly as a Single Part is selected.
  • Single Composite Feature Imports all the parts in the source file as part of a single composite feature in the part environment.
  • Multiple Solid Part Imports all the parts in the source file as individual solid bodies in the part. Adds to duplicate file names a suffix with a colon and an incremental number, starting with 1, such as :1.
Group Name to Place Data Specifies a name for the composite group. Available only when Create Surfaces As selection is either Single Composite Feature or Single Construction Group.
  • Default Applies a default name derived from the type of object followed by an incremental number.
  • Previous Manually Entered Names Displays the last manually entered name.
Create Surfaces As Specifies how the surfaces are imported into the Inventor file
  • Individual Surface Bodies Each surface is created as a single surface body in the part modeling environment. Each surface body has its own browser node that is a child of the root node.
  • Single Composite Feature Each surface is created as a single composite, regardless of what level, layer, or group they originate from. The result is only one composite note that is a child of the root node.
  • Multiple Composite Features (default) The composites are created from the levels, layer, or groups. Each level, layer, or group is created as an individual composite feature that has the same name as the level, layer, or group they originate from. Each composite feature has its own browser node that is a child of the root node.
  • Single Construction Group Each surface is created as a single group in the construction environment regardless of what level, layer, or group they originate from. The result is one group node that is a child of the construction folder node.
  • Multiple Construction Groups Each group is created from the levels, layer, or groups. Each level, layer, or group is created as an individual construction group that has the same name as the level, layer, or group they originate from. Each construction group has its own browser node that is a child of the construction folder node.
Add Prefix to Group Names Specifies if a prefix is added to the group name. The prefix you enter is added to the group names that are called out in the source file. Available only when Create Surfaces selection is either Multiple Composite Features or Multiple Construction Groups.
Units
Specifies the units to use for non-native data in the import file.
Import Units Provides a selection list of units. If you select a unit type different from the one specified in the import file, you convert the parameter values in the import file.
Post Processes
Specifies the processes to perform on the files you import:
Check Parts During Load Select to perform a quality check on the imported data. Checks each body within a composite until it locates a bad body. Marks the bad body with a white “i”, and the check stops.
Enable Advanced Healing Select to perform operations like retrimming surfaces, reconstructing spline surfaces, reintersecting surfaces, and so on, to make imported models watertight and usable in Inventor. Due to the nature of the operation, alters some of the geometry slightly.
Auto Stitch and Promote Select to stitch surfaces upon import. If stitching results in a solid body, it is promoted to the part environment as a solid body. Available when you select surface data to create as a construction group.
