Stress Analysis settings - General tab

Stress analysis settings are applicable to all simulations. When a new simulation is started, these preferences are used. You can override the global settings on a per simulation basis by changing the simulation properties.

This section discusses the controls on the General tab.

Access:

Ribbon: Stress Analysis tab Settings panel Stress Analysis Settings

General tab

Default Type Specifies the default analysis type for new simulations. Choose from Static Analysis and Modal Analysis.
Default Objective

Specifies the default objective for new simulations. Choose from Single Point and Parametric Dimension.

Contact Defaults
Tolerance Specifies the maximum distance between faces or edges to consider in automatic contact detection for new simulations.
Type Specifies the default contact type for new simulations.
Normal Stiffness Specifies the default stiffness value for the input normal. This attribute affects how loads are transferred between surfaces. Available only for spring contact types.
Tangential Stiffness Specifies the stiffness value for the input tangency. This attribute affects how loads are transferred between surfaces. Available only for spring contact types.
Excluded Components
Shell Connector Tolerance Specify the maximum ratio between shell gap and shell thickness used to bridge gaps within a midsurface. These gaps are connected using connectors. A connector is a system generated contact that helps to consider the midsurface as physically connected even though it has gaps.
  Display as:

Specifies the default visibility settings for excluded components.

  • Invisible - the component visibility is turned off.
  • Transparent - uses the disabled component visibility characteristics
  • Shaded - uses the standard shaded component settings.
Glyph Display
Global Glyph Scale: Specifies the glyph size as a percentage of the model bounding box.
Initial Label Placement Distance Specifies the initial displacement distance of the labels relative to where you click in the model. The setting is a percentage of the diagonal of the model bounding box. Changes to the setting do not affect the positions of existing labels.
Reset Restores all settings to the product default values.
OK Applies setting modifications made during the dialog box session to all new Simulations. The settings for previous and current simulation are unchanged.
Cancel Discards setting modifications made during the current dialog box session.
