Cable & Harness provides a wide range of automated features and commands for cable and harness design, documentation, and reports:
- Harness designs
- Create and edit harness assembly files.
- Insert wires and cables.
- Insert splices.
- Define segments, calculate lengths, and bundle diameters.
- Allocate space by defining possible wire, cable, and ribbon cable paths through the assembly.
- Route wires and cables through harness segments.
- Define and place connectors
- Edits to harness designs
- Arrange splices, attach virtual parts, and make other modifications.
- Manage cable and harness occurrences in assemblies.
- Copy a completed harness to use in another location
- Edit and retrieve harness object definitions from a library
- Reports and Documentation
- Generate reports for several report types, or configure them to your specific needs.
- Represent harness assembly information in drawings or nailboard drawings.
- Save harness assembly information to .xml format.
- Import electrical connectivity wire lists (including cable wires) using either .csv or .xml file formats
- Create 2D harness documentation with intelligent properties and dimensions that update as the 3D design changes.
- Content Center
- Author and publish connector parts to the Content Center.
- Retrieve generic or published connector parts from the Content Center
Note: If you perform operations specific to Autodesk Inventor on segments, wires, cables, and ribbon cables, problems can occur with operations in Cable & Harness. For example, do not use Autodesk Inventor operations such as extrusions, sweeps, and so on, to change harness objects.
