Like the Lighting, Effects, and Rendering tabs, the Materials tab is divided into two panes. The left pane describes the predefined archives of materials that are installed and the right pane shows the current palette of materials that have been defined and are being used in the scene. The palette also shows a small thumbnail of each material as it will appear when rendered.
