Troubleshooting Issues with Conceptual Energy Analysis

Requires an Autodesk Subscription

Issue: To perform a conceptual energy analysis, you must have a current Autodesk subscription. The Autodesk user account that you entered is not associated with an Autodesk subscription.

Solution: Contact your BIM manager or CAD manager or go to www.autodesk.com for information about obtaining an Autodesk subscription.

Enable Energy Model Disabled

Issue: Conceptual energy analysis cannot be performed unless the Enable Energy Model option is enabled.

Solution: Click Yes to proceed, or click No to cancel.

To enable the Enable Energy Model option, click Analyze tabEnergy Analysis panelEnable Energy Model.

Insufficient Information for Energy Analysis

Issue: Conceptual energy analysis cannot be performed unless the mass has one or more mass floors, and the Enable Energy Model option is enabled.

Solution: Click Yes to make these changes to the model automatically and proceed with the analysis.

Click No to cancel the analysis request.

After the analysis is complete, the changes are removed from the project. See Enabling the Energy Model.

No Mass Floors

Issue: Conceptual energy analysis cannot be performed unless the mass has mass floors.

Solution: To use the lowest level to define mass floor for visible masses, click Yes.

To cancel the analysis so you can Creating Mass Floors as desired, click No.

After the analysis is complete, the new mass floors are removed from the project. You must create the mass floors manually.

No Visible Masses

Issue: Conceptual energy analysis cannot be performed unless the 3D view displays one or more masses that have mass floors.

Solution: Create a mass, or display masses in the current view by clicking Massing & Site tabConceptual Mass panel, and selecting Show Mass Form and Floors or Show Mass Surface Types or Show Mass Zones and Shades.

Energy Model Already Exists

Issue: Energy model may be out of date with the current state of the model.

Solution: Click Use existing energy model to use the previously generated simulation.

Solution: Click Update energy model to generate a new simulation.

For best results, you should ensure that the simulation is in sync with the current state of the model so that you understand how design changes impact energy simulations.

Use the Results and Compare dialog to see multiple simulations in a side by side comparison. It is a recommended best practice to experiment with simulations. Although it may be time consuming, it is beneficial to run multiple simulations against an energy model baseline to compare the results of design form and parameter changes.

Analytical Spaces and Surfaces Not Found

Issue: Revit failed to find analytical spaces and surfaces required for energy simulation.

Solution: Simplify the complexity of the model. See Best Practices for Conceptual Energy Analysis.

Solution: Add room bounding elements. See Room-Bounding Elements and Room Boundaries.

Unknown Location

Issue: The project location specified in the Location Weather and Site dialog cannot be recognized.

Solution: On the Location Weather and Site dialog, specify the project location using the Internet Mapping Service.

Energy Model Creation Will End if Disabled

Issue: Toggling Enable Energy Model

Solution: Select No to continue the in-process energy model creation.

Energy Model Geometry Won't Be Saved

Issue: You saved the project file while an energy model creation is in process. Changes to the model geometry won't be saved while the energy model is being created.

Solution: Save the project file after the energy model creation process is complete.

Energy Model Creation Will End if File Closed

Issue: If you close the file, the energy model will not be created.

Solution: Click No so that the energy model creation process can continue.
