Drawing Vertical Pipes

You can draw a vertical pipe segment in a plan view by changing the Offset value on the Options Bar while drawing a pipe segment.

Use the Slope Editor to apply slope to an entire system or portions of a system. See Using the Slope Editor.

When applying large slope values, it often easier to draw the piping at the desired angle in a section view or an elevation view. See Drawing Pipe In an Elevation View and Drawing Pipe In a Section View.

From an existing pipe segment

  1. Click Systems tabPlumbing & Piping panel Pipe or Pipe Placeholder.
  2. In the Type Selector, select the pipe type.
  3. Optionally, in the Properties palette, under Mechanical, select a system type.
  4. In the drawing area, click to establish a start point for the pipe.
  5. On the Place Pipe tabPlacement Tools panel, select placement options.
  6. On the Options Bar, specify a different Offset, click Apply, and click Modify.

A vertical segment is automatically created, extending from the original offset to the newly applied offset.

  7. Right-click a connector on an existing pipe, fixture, fitting, or mechanical equipment, and click Draw Pipe or Draw Pipe Placeholder.
  8. Press the Spacebar to assume the size and elevation of the existing component.
Tip: You can click Modify | Place Duct tabPlacement Tools panel Inherit Elevation or Inherit Size to assume just the elevation or just the size.
  9. On the Place Pipe tabPlacement Tools panel, select placement options.
  10. On the Options Bar, specify a different Offset, and click Apply.
  11. A vertical segment is automatically created, extending from the original offset to the newly applied offset. You can draw horizontal segments to continue the run at the new offset, or click Modify to add only the vertical segment.

Angles for fittings are drawn according to the Angles setting in Mechanical Settings.

Pipes display with centerlines in hidden line view. For pipe fittings, you can override the default centerline by editing the family, adding a model line, and setting its subcategory to centerline.

By default, centerlines are turned off in U.S. templates.

When drawing pipe from a component with multiple stacked connectors, a Select Connector dialog displays to let you specify which connector to use.
