Granting a Request to Borrow an Element

This procedure describes the explicit granting process. There is also an implicit granting process that occurs when you Synchronize with Central and relinquish the requested elements.

  1. When a team member requests an element, a notification dialog displays the project name, the requested element, and the team member who requested the element.
Note: To receive an editing request, you must have the same model open for edit.

Hover your cursor over the dialog to highlight the requested elements in the drawing area. Click Show to maintain the highlighting.

  2. To act on a pending request, do one of the following to open the Editing Requests dialog.
    • Click the notification dialog.
Note: You can also click Grant or Deny in the notification dialog. Either option is subject to the same permission behaviors specified from the Editing Requests dialog. In some cases the Grant button may be inactive because you need to Synchronize with Central.

Go to step 6 if you responded through the notification dialog.

    • On the Status bar click Editing Requests.
    • Click Collaborate tabSynchronize panel Editing Requests.
  3. Expand Others’ pending Requests.
  4. Select the request. It has a time stamp and the user name of the person submitting the request.

You can expand the request to see the element name. To view the element, select it from the list and, if the element is not visible in the current view, click Show.

  5. Click Grant or, if you do not want the other user to borrow this element, click Deny/Retract. You can also use Deny/Retract to withdraw your own request to borrow an element.

If you try to grant a request that has an asterisk (modified element) next to it, Revit notifies you that you have not synchronized your changes with central. You must either synchronize your changes with central and then grant the request, or you must relinquish your elements without synchronizing with central. For more information, see Relinquishing Ownership without Synchronizing with Central.

If you try to grant a request that has a caret (deleted element) next to it, Revitwill ignore the request because the element is no longer available for editing.
