Some new and changed features of Autodesk Revit 2014 require upgrades for projects and family files, or they result in certain behaviors of which you should be aware.
- Loss Method for pipe accessories and equipment:
When you upgrade a project in which the Loss Method for pipe accessory or equipment is set to K Coefficient from Table, Revit will display the Loss Method as Unsupported. In the Properties palette, you must select the pipe accessory or equipment and specify a new Loss Method. See Connector Properties.
- Lookup tables (CSV files):
When you upgrade a project with a family that uses a lookup table which is not in the default lookup table folder, a warning displays indicating that one or more CSV files used by the size_lookup function are missing. Click Export to export a list of the missing files. You may also see this dialog when you open a project from another user that uses different CSV tables for a family. See Managing Lookup Tables.
- Text formats in schedules: Existing text formatting is mapped and assigned to a new reference text type. For each unique set of font properties in the original project, a new type is created and all elements sharing that same set of font properties will be assigned to that type. Types are named using the following sequencing pattern: Schedule Text <number>. See Format a schedule.
- Conditional formatting: You can now allow conditional formatting to display on sheets and print from a sheet view. When you upgrade a project, this is off by default. See Format a schedule.
- Steel beam and brace families in legacy projects: To improve accessibility to beam geometry positioning, some steel structural framing families were updated with new Geometric Position parameters. The following parameters have been removed:
- (Construction) Start Extension
- (Construction) End Extension
- (Other) Start Extension Calculation
- (Other) End Extension Calculation
These parameters remain in projects created in versions prior to 2014. It is recommended to use the new Geometric Position extension parameters instead of the Construction extension parameters and shape handles. The Construction extension parameters are additive to the Geometric Position extension parameters and may cause confusion later in the design process.
You can clean up the project by manually updating all affected families. See Steel Beams and Braces in Upgraded Projects.
- Point clouds: Autodesk Revit 2014 uses a new point cloud engine that requires RCP or RCS format indexed point clouds. For models that include linked PCG format point cloud files, use the recommended upgrade procedure to index the PCG files to the new format, while maintaining the origin and orientation of the point cloud file. Using this procedure ensures that the new indexed point cloud files will be in the same location relative to the model as the PCG files. See Upgrade a Revit Model with Linked Point Clouds.
