Open or Place a File from the Vault in SolidWorks

You can open any SolidWorks file stored in a Vault or place a file that is stored in the Vault into the current model.

In some cases you may need to synchronize your local working folder with the vault if there are file name discrepancies.

Open a file stored in the Vault

  1. Select Open from the Autodesk Vault ribbon.
  2. In the Select File From Vault dialog box, navigate to the file you want to open.
  3. From the Revision list, select the revision of the file.
  4. Optional: Select Released Biased to open the released version of the selected file revision instead of the latest version.
  5. Use the Open drop down list to choose whether to just open the file, or open and check out the file and, if appropriate, its related files. The selected file is opened.
Note: Check Out All is disabled if any children of the selected files may not be the latest revision.

Synchronize Local Files

If files have been renamed in the vault, it is possible that the message 'Wrong file references loaded' opens when a parent drawing is loaded in SolidWorks. The affected files get the file status 'New File'. In this case you must synchronize the local working folder with the current Vault by using the Workspace Sync feature.
  1. In the Vault client, navigate to the Advanced toolbar and select Workspace Sync from the Workspace Sync drop-down box.
  2. Click Settings to set update preferences, expiration rules, and which file extensions to delete.

Autodesk recommends setting unmanaged files to 0 days so that recent changes are considered.

Place a file stored in the Vault into the current file

  1. With an Assembly (.sldasm) file open, from the Vault Menu, select Place From Vault.
  2. Navigate to the file as you would when opening a file stored in a vault.
  3. Click Open.
  4. Place instances of the file in the current SolidWorks model.
