Step 2: Check SolidWorks Files into the Vault

The "New File" icon beside a file indicates it has not been added to the Vault. Before checking a file into the Vault, save the model if any changes have been made.

  1. Right-click mobile gantry.slddrw in the Vault browser and then select Check In Files.

The Check In Files dialog box opens. This displays all the files that are added during this process and the folder structure they are checked into. The Vault creates any folders needed to support this structure.

  2. Enter the following comment for the files: mobile gantry files added for tutorial and click OK.
  3. Select Go to Vault on the Autodesk Vault ribbon.
  4. In the Welcome dialog box, Click Log In, then log into the Vault as you did in the previous step of the tutorial.
  5. Expand the folder structure in the navigation pane and select the different folders listed in the Vault.

The SolidWorks files you just added are in the Vault in the proper folder structure.

  6. Select Mobile Gantry.SLDASM from the main pane and click the Properties tab in the preview pane.

Version information for the selected file is displayed. Because the file was just added to the Vault, only the first version is listed.

  7. Click the Where Used tab in the preview pane.

Notice that Autodesk Vault is maintaining the relationship between files.

  8. Click the Uses tab to see the files used by the assembly.
  9. Close Autodesk Vault.

After a file is added, the icon in the browser becomes an empty circle . This indicates that the file is securely locked into the Vault and checked in.
