Working with Light Sources

This page describes the ways you can

Creating a new light source

To create a new light source, you can use the icons provided in the toolbar or the options available in the Scene menu.

When you create a new light source, it is always placed directly in front of the camera at a distance of five meters from the position of the camera.

Modifying a light source

Selecting light sources

In order to modify one or more light sources, you must select them by highlighting them in the Browser pane or by clicking their representations in the 3D view:

  • Yellow spheres represent point lights and ambient lights.
  • Yellow cones represent spot lights.
  • Yellow arrows represent directional lights.
  • Yellow 2D squares represent area lights.
  • Yellow 3D cubes represent sky lights.

If your light sources are not shown in the 3D view, toggle the button in the toolbar to restore the rendering of their representations.

See also Selecting Objects.

Setting properties

Once you have selected one or more light sources, you can modify their settings in the Properties pane. See also Setting Properties.

Moving, rotating and scaling

When you select a light source, its representation in the 3D view is updated with an interactive manipulator widget. You can click and drag this widget to modify the translation, rotation or scaling of the light source, depending on the current manipulation mode:

  • When the icon in the toolbar is selected, translation mode is active. Clicking and dragging a manipulator widget moves the light source to a new position in 3D space.
  • When the icon is selected, rotation mode is active. Clicking and dragging a manipulator widget rotates the light source to a new orientation.
  • When the icon is selected, scaling mode is active. Clicking and dragging a manipulator widget scales the light source up or down.

Deleting a light source

To delete a light source, select it and press Delete.
