To convert a smooth mesh preview to polygons
- Select the mesh(es) that you want to convert and ensure that Smooth Mesh Preview is turned on. See Preview a smoothed mesh.
- Select Modify > Convert > Smooth Mesh Preview to Polygons.
The original version of the mesh (the cage) is smoothed using the Smooth Mesh Preview attributes. Maya copies these attributes to a new polySmooth node.

Smooth Mesh Preview options are set in the
Smooth Mesh section of the polyShape tab of the
Attribute Editor. For more information on the
