Water cooling control by temperature dialog

This option enables you to set a threshold temperature on any node in the mold, that will stop the cooling when the node reaches this temperature. When using this option, the mold may require a long time to reach the specified temperature, which in turn may alter the specified cycle time.

To access this dialog, select Temperature controlled from the Water cooling section of the Rapid Heating and Cooling inlet dialog, and click Specify.

Property Description
Coolant control The rate at which coolant is pumped through the channels can be specified in a variety of ways. Select the one which resembles your system most accurately:
  • Specified pressure - Apply a fixed pressure to force flow in the circuit specified by the inlet node.
  • Specified flowrate- Specify the total flow through all the circuits in the mold.
  • Specified Reynolds number - A low Reynolds number (i.e. below 2300) produces laminar flow, which is characterized by smooth constant fluid motion. A high Reynolds number (i.e. above 4000), produces turbulent flow, which produces flow fluctuations that are good for heat transfer.
  • Total flowrate (all circuits) - This option will show the user how the flow is distributed through each circuit if a total flow rate for the mold is specified. If different circuits in the mold have different geometries, these circuits will also have different flow resistances. The flow through the mold will always follow the path of least resistance. Hence the bulk of the flow will pass through the circuits that have a lower flow resistance, and less flow will pass through the circuits with a higher flow resistance.
Coolant inlet temperature

Enter the value for the temperature of the coolant that will be used to cool the mold, as it enters the circuits. The coolant inlet temperature will determine how quickly the mold cools down to the ejection temperature.

Temperature control In order to control the temperature, it is necessary to specify
  • Target temperature - the temperature to which you would like to cool the mold.
  • Thermocouple node - the location on the mold, where the temperature is being monitored.
