Override Security Settings on a Vault Object

Override security settings on a file, folder, item (Vault 2015 R2 only), or custom object in Vault.

Note: Item Security is available only in Vault 2015 R2.

Whether a Vault object has role-based security (no ACL defined) or object-based security, the security can be overridden. An override of security means that the system ACL still exists on the object but is being overriden by a newly defined ACL. This is an Override Access Control List or an Override ACL. As long as an override ACL exists, the system ACL will be ignored. If the user removes the Override ACL then the system ACL will become the new security.

  1. Right-click a file, folder, item, or custom object in the vault and select Details.

You can also access the Details dialog by selecting Details from the File menu.

  2. In the Details dialog, select the Security tab. The Override Security check box is accessible, even when the security mode is role-based.
  3. Select the Override security check box to enable the Access Control List associated with the Vault object and manually edit access permissions.

The Copy button becomes available when Security override is selected.

Note: If the Override security check box is selected but no permission changes are made, the system assumes that the user wants to create a new security access control list with the same settings.
  4. Configure the override access control list using the Copy, Add, and Remove buttons.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Note: The Security Mode field now says System or Overridden security. This indicates that there is an Override ACL configured on the Vault object.

Deselect the Override Security check box at any time to restore the system ACL.
