To optimise a design road corridor (preview)

Use Corridor Optimisation for InfraWorks 360 (Preview) to plan a design road's optimal horizontal path based on parameters you define.

The Corridor Optimisation analysis defines a boundary area around the corridor you specify. This area is analysed to determine the optimised corridor. You can adjust the corridor start and end as well as the size of the analysis boundary area. For best results, tighten the project boundary to fit the selected road, especially if a road to be optimised is short.

Note: To add a design road that has an optimised horizontal path, display the Corridor Optimisation panel while you plan the road's rough path; the Corridor Optimisation job then generates the design road. Corridor Optimisation (preview) can not be performed on roads that have already been added with the Design Carriageways tools.

  1. Click to display the Corridor Optimisation panel.
  2. Select a Design Speed.
  3. Provide a Job Description.
Tip: A description unique to the optimisation job makes it easier to differentiate between multiple optimisation alternatives in the Job Monitor.
  4. Select a default Structure Style for the job.
  5. Do either of the following:
    • Select an existing path from the Path list.

Drag to reposition the existing points as needed.

    • Click to define new start and end points and then click in the model to place the points.

The new path appears in the Path list. Double-click the name to rename it.

  6. Adjust the boundary area by dragging a corner grip.

Tighten the boundary area to include only the area to analyse for corridor placement.

  7. Under Advanced Settings, do any of the following:
    • Use Cost Zones and Suitability Map to specify areas to be avoided.

For more information, see To specify avoidance areas.

    • Use Construction Rules to specify rules for when to use bridges and tunnels. This tab also lets you specify how your roadside cut slopes and fill slopes (cross-slopes) will be graded.
    • Use Alignment Constraints to specify the minimum radius for the optimised corridor.
    • Use Profile Constraints to specify the maximum gradient for the optimised corridor.
    • Use Construction & Earthwork Cost to set and review unit prices for earthwork and construction activities and materials.

The values you set will be used to calculate your optimisation results. For more information, see the topic on construction and earthwork costs.

  8. Click Optimise It.
  9. The optimisation job is processed in the order in which it's received. When the optimisation job is complete, you'll be notified by email; you can also see the status of the job in the Job Monitor.

Note: Corridor Optimisation is in preview ahead of its anticipated release. If you try it during the preview, we may waive the cloud credit charge for your alignment optimisation jobs and limit you to one job at a time.
