Roads Tutorial 4 Exercise 3: Analysing an Intersection

You can also analyse an intersection for sight obstructions. This exercise shows you how to do that.

1. Go to the bookmark Intersection Analysis.
2. Select the intersection.
3. Close the asset card for the Intersection.
4. Click Sight Distance to open the Sight Distance panel, if it's not already open.
5. For Approach, select Forward on Morris Street Northeast.

   This is the main boulevard with the central reserve going right to left.

6. For Manoeuvre, select Crossing.

   This will analyse for traffic going straight across the intersection.

7. Click Analyse.
8. Note that the driver's view of cross traffic is obstructed approaching this intersection.
9. For Traffic Control, select Yield Control, then click Analyse.

   Visibility is not improved.

10. For Traffic Control, select Stop Control, then click Analyse.

    Clearly this intersection, needs Stop signs or lights. Now check the left turn.

11. For Manoeuvre, select Left Turn, then click Analyse.

    Visibility remains clear. Now check the cross street.

12. For Approach, select Forward on Lagrima de Oro Road Northeast, then click Analyse.
13. Note any obstructions (shown in red).

    Would these cause problems?

14. Close the Sight Distance Panel.
15. Click away from the intersection to deselect it.
