To Create an Electromechanical Project Starting in Inventor

Create an electromechanical project in Inventor, and then link your AutoCAD Electrical project by connecting to the link file from AutoCAD Electrical.

Linking an Inventor project to an AutoCAD Electrical project requires creating a link file and defining the two projects to link. The process involves two steps:

  1. In either AutoCAD Electrical or Inventor, create the link file and point to the project for that product.
  2. In the other product, complete the link by browsing to the previously created link file and pointing to a project in that product.

Link Starting in Inventor

    In Inventor:

  1. Click Electromechanical tabSetup panelElectromechanical Link Setup.

  2. Click on the Electromechanical Project Setup dialog box.
  3. Enter a filename for the .emx link file.

  4. Specify a folder that is shared between AutoCAD Electrical and Inventor.

  5. Click Create.

  6. On the Electromechanical Link Setup dialog box, select your Sync Settings. The default setting is AutoCAD Electrical. The assumption is that AutoCAD Electrical users would be initiating the electromechanical workflows most of the time; hence the default is set to AutoCAD Electrical when a component link is created.

  7. Click Close.

    In AutoCAD Electrical:

  1. Click Project tabProject Tools panelManager. Find
  2. In Project Manager, activate the project you want to link.
  3. Click Electromechanical tabSetup panelElectromechanical Link Setup. Find
  4. Click Link.
  5. Browse to the existing link file created in Inventor.
  6. Click Close.
