Roads Tutorial 1 Exercise 4: Horizontal Editing

In this exercise, you will practice manipulating the editing controls to create smooth horizontal curves.

  1. Go to the bookmark Road All.
  2. Open the Model Explorer and turn off visibility for the Points of Interest layer.

You do not need the pushpin markers anymore, so you can hide them.

  3. Close the Model Explorer.
  4. Go to the bookmark Road Curve.
  5. Select the road and move the asset card out of the way.
  6. Right-click the road and then select Edit Curve so that you can view the scale pop-up.
  7. Experiment with moving the slider to see how it changes the curve. Finish with the radius = 600
  8. Click away from the road to deselect it.
  9. Select the road again and then click the Point of Tangency control.

This control moves the start and end point of the curve and also affects the radius.

  10. Drag the POT control sideways to see how it changes the curve.
  11. Undo the last action to restore the curve.
  12. Adjust the Radius control to smooth out the smaller curve to the right of this curve.
  13. Right-click the curve and select Curve Properties.
  14. Note the information provided about this curve, including the design speed, which constrains the maximum radius.
  15. Close Curve Properties.
