To Machine a Turning Profile

Next, machine the profile of the part to remove most of the excess material. To do this, use the Profile strategy with the same tool used in the previous operation.

  1. On the ribbon, click CAM tab Turning panel Profile .

Tool tab

  1. On the Tool tab, click .
  2. The previous tool #1 - CNMT09T308 should still be selected.
  3. Enable the Allow grooving check box.

Geometry tab

It is necessary to machine a bit further than the backside of the part, to clean the cutting-off area and the fillet. A confinement has to be defined to extend the operation over the part limits.

  1. Click the Geometry tab.
  2. Enable the Confinement group.
  3. Change Backside stock offset to: 5 mm

Passes tab

  1. Click the Passes tab.
  2. Enable the Finishing passes check box.
  3. Enable the Roughing Passes group.
  4. Change Maximum roughing stepdown to: 2 mm

Start the Calculation

  1. Click at the bottom of the Operation dialog box, or right-click in the graphics window and select OK from the marking menu, to automatically start calculating the toolpath.

The toolpath is now calculated and a preview appears in the graphics window.
