Relief > Calculate > Subtract

Select this menu option to subtract shapes from the currently active relief layer.

Note: The Subtract Relief button on the Relief Editing toolbar and on the Shape Editor panel is a shortcut for this menu option.

To subtract a shape from the currently active relief layer:

  1. Create a circle and a rectangle vector and centre them in the model.

  2. Flood fill the circle vector in blue.

  3. Double-click the blue circle. The Tool Settings: Shape Editor panel is displayed.
  4. Select Round to create a rounded profile for the blue circle.
  5. In the Relief Combine Mode area, select Add. The rounded shape is added to the active relief layer, and displayed in the 3D view.

  6. Click Apply.
  7. Click Cancel to close the Shape Editor.
  8. In the 3D view, flood fill the rectangle in red.

  9. Double-click the red rectangle to display the Tool Settings: Shape Editor Tool panel. The window in the Shape Editor panel is red.
  10. Enter a Start Height of 2.
  11. Select Subtract. The plane is subtracted from the rounded shape on the currently active relief layer to create the following new relief:
