Place a Structural Connection

Add a structural connection to a framing join of two or more columns, beams, and braces.

Video: Load and Place a Structural Connection

  1. Click Structure tab Connection panel (Connection).
  2. In the drawing area, select the elements to be connected.
  3. On the Properties palette, select a structural connection from the Type Selector drop-down.
Note: Unless structural connection add-ins are installed, only the symbolic generic connection is available.
  4. Select the framing elements which comprise the join requiring a connection. Use a pick box or press and hold Ctrl to select multiple elements.
  5. Press Enter or Spacebar to place the connection.

Alternatively you can select the structural elements first and then click Structure tab Connection panel (Connection). The generic connection will be placed if there were no previous connection instances, otherwise the last used connection is placed.

Note: When detailed connections are placed, they are generated in a background process. The processes display in notification windows from the Background Process indicator in the Status Bar. You can continue modeling while the connections generate, however some Revit actions may not be immediately accessible, such as saving the project.
