This topics walks you through a typical copy design workflow using the Copy Design stand-alone application.
Important: This topic is intended for Vault Workgroup and Vault Professional users. Vault Basic users should see
Copy Design (Vault Basic).

Tip: If you want to copy a particular version of a file, right-click on the version from the History tab and select Copy Design.
The Copy Design dialog opens.
Note: If dependent files are cloaked, the following message displays: "Some of the children of the added object are inaccessible." An administrator must provide access to the dependent files. After obtaining access, refresh the Copy Design main view.
- Click the
Master Menu
on the toolbar and select whether you want the following options enabled:
- Click
Add Objects
on the toolbar to add additional files for copying. Select the files that you want to copy and click Open.
Important: AutoCAD Electrical users should select the electrical project (WDP) and not just the drawings. In addition, all project support files (WDT, WDL, AEPX) should have the same name as the project file.
The files are added to the
main view of the Copy Design dialog.
- Click
Include Children
on the toolbar and select whether you want to show Attachments, Library Files, or both in the copy design view.
- If desired, click
Select Copy Settings
on the toolbar and select whether you want to Copy Only the top nodes or all of the files listed in the main view.
- If you want to perform a different action on a file, right-click on the file and select the action from the context menu.
See
Actions for more information.
Tip: Click Refresh at any time to capture the latest version of the listed files and file structure.
- Click
Rule Set
on the toolbar and select the rule set that you want to apply to the copy operation.
Note: Turn the Rule Set button off to ignore rule sets for this copy operation. All source file properties are applied to the destination files. If configured, category and numbering schemes are applied to the destination files as well. However, the state and revision of the destination file are always reset.
- Once everything is configured, click
Create Copy
on the toolbar to start the copy operation.
Several pre-checks are performed to ensure that:
- All files have unique names (by Folder)
- Vault unique file name rules are met
- Selected files still exist
- Files requiring edits are write-enabled
- Files requiring edits are owned by the workgroup site
All successful copy operations receive a green check in the main view. If a copy operation failed, a red cross is displayed.
To perform another copy operation, modify your settings and click Create Copy.
