About Pipe Basic Properties (Create Mode)

Properties on the Design tab of the Properties palette that you use to add pipe objects.

The Design tab is divided into two categories: Basic and Advanced.

By default, Basic properties are displayed on the Pipe Properties palette.

Note: In the following tables, properties related to sloped piped layouts are preceded by an asterisk (*). Properties related to flexible pipe are preceded by double asterisks (**) and are only available when you add flexible pipe.
General Action Selections

Description

Describes the pipe part (optional).

System

Selects a system definition for the pipe object in the current drawing.

Standard (default); selections derived from the catalog

Dimensions Action Selections

Routing preference

Selects a routing preference for the pipe object in the current drawing.

Standard (default); selections derived from the catalog

Nominal size

Selects a size within the range specified in the current routing preference.

2” (first time); thereafter, last used value selected

Size lock

Prevents the nominal size value from being changed.

  • Unlocked (default)
  • Locked

Specify cut length

Cut length

If Yes is specified, then for Cut length, lets you specify a dimension. Selecting No hides the Cut length property.

No (default)

Placement Action Selections

Elevation

Specifies a Z value (elevation) above or below the XY plane of the current user coordinate system (UCS).

0 (default)

Elevation lock

Prevents objects of one elevation from snapping to objects of another elevation.

  • Unlocked (default)
  • Locked

Start elevation

Specifies an elevation for connector 1 on the pipe object. Start elevation is the same value as Elevation.

0 (default)

Justification Action Selections

Justify

Orientates the justification of the pipe object.

  • Top Center
  • Top Right
  • Center (default)
  • Center Left
  • Center Right
  • Bottom Left
  • Bottom Center
  • Bottom Right

Horizontal offset

Specifies a placement offset in the horizontal direction from the insertion point.

Routing Action Selections

*Slope format

Specifies the current slope format. The slope format affects the slope property (for example, as a fraction, decimal, or percentage).

Note: Click (Preferences) to edit the slope format in the Pipe Layout Preferences worksheet.

Available slope formats:

  • Angle
  • Percentage (100%=45)
  • Percentage (100%=90)
  • Rise value/Run value
  • Run value, Rise= constant value
  • Rise value, Run=constant value
  • Fractional Rise value, Run= constant value

*Slope

Specifies a slope value (rise/run in previous releases) that reflects the slope format

Note: If you change the slope value while you are adding more pipe parts to a run, a fitting will be added to adjust the slope.

0 (default)

*Bend method

Select the desired Bend method. Choose either Elbow or Offset.
  • Elbow (default)
  • Offset

*Bend method

lock

Prevents the bend method from being changed. If you do not lock offset, then the setting reverts to elbow after one instance of the offset method is inserted in the pipe run.

Note: Appears only if offset is chosen.
  • Unlocked (default)
  • Locked

*Bend angle

Specifies the angle to constrain the routing in the pipe run.

The bend angle varies, depending on the values that are defined in the catalog content.

*Bend angle lock

Prevents the bend angle from being changed.

  • Unlocked (default)
  • Locked

**Segment

Specifies the layout method for the flexible pipe.

  • Line
  • Arc
  • Spline

**Radius factor

If Line is selected for Segment, lets you specify a radius value.

*Branch angle

Specifies the angle (for example, 45 or 90 degrees) to which tees and laterals are constrained in the branch.

The selections vary, depending on the angles that are defined in the catalog content. For example, if lateral is selected, then only angles from the routing preferences pertaining to the selected lateral appear.

*Branch angle lock

Prevents the branch angle value from being edited.
