About Creating and Placing Parts Lists in Drawings (AutoCAD Mechanical Toolset)

Use the AMPARTLIST command to create and place parts lists in a drawing.

Because parts lists are derived from the BOM, it is important that the appropriate BOM is set as the current BOM before you create a parts list.

To create a parts list that contains all the parts and assemblies in the drawing, the main BOM must be set as the current BOM.

To create a parts list that only contains the parts and assemblies within a particular drawing border in model space, the corresponding Border BOM must be set as the current BOM.

To create a parts list for a mechanical structure assembly, create an annotation view of the assembly, and then create a parts list for the annotation view. The parts list automatically derives data from the correct Assembly BOM. Because parts lists can potentially contain information about the drawing file (information beyond the scope of the annotation view), the parts list does not become part of the annotation view’s definition. When you activate the annotation view or xref to it from another drawing, the parts list is not considered to belong to the annotation view.

When the AMPARTLIST command is used, data is extracted from the BOM and is displayed in the Parts List dialog box, according to the settings made in AMOPTIONS (For details on how to customize these settings, see the Configuration and Setup Guide). You can modify the appearance of the parts list as well as modify the parts list data before you place the parts list in the drawing area.
