Removing Part of a Region Object

You can remove part of a selected region object using a variety of methods that specify subregions, individual entities, or a series of connected entities.

For example, you may have selected a shaft as a circular region object and would like to remove a drill hole from that shaft before moving the shaft. You can do this by defining a REM circular region to remove the drill hole from the region object.

The removal process is the same for all REM region objects, including enhanced bitonal regions.

Note: You cannot remove an enhanced bitonal region object or a primitive object from a REM object in a grayscale or color image.
Removing has two main purposes:

Removal Methods

You can use the following methods to specify what to remove from the REM region:
  • Select an individual raster entity for removal, using menu selections Line, Circle, Arc, or Smart Pick. Smart Pick is recommended if the entity is not specifically a line, circle, or arc.
  • Define a subregion using one of the menu selections Rectangle, Polygon, Diagonal, or Circle. This method works with pixels rather than raster entities, and removes all pixels within the area you define.
  • Create an enhanced bitonal region object to select one or more raster entities. For more information, see Defining REM Enhanced Bitonal Regions.
