Working with User Coordinate Systems (UCSs)

To create a UCS

You can create a new UCS and align it to items in the part, or you can duplicate an existing UCS and then modify it.

  1. Select Home tab > Create panel > UCS.
  2. In the UCS dialog, click New.
  3. In the New UCS dialog, enter a Name for the new UCS.
  4. If you want to duplicate an existing UCS:
    1. Select Create from UCS.
    2. Select a UCS from the list.
    3. Click OK to close the New UCS dialog.
    4. Modify your new UCS using the UCS dialog.
  5. If you want to create a new UCS using the alignment wizard:
    1. Select Create and go to alignment wizard.
    2. Click OK to display the Align UCS wizard.
    3. Use the alignment wizard to position your new UCS.

To change the active UCS

  1. Select Home tab > Create panel > UCS.
  2. Select a UCS from the Current UCS list.
  3. Click Close.

To edit a UCS

  1. Select Home tab > Create panel > UCS.
  2. Select a UCS in the Current UCS list.
  3. Use the buttons to edit the UCS:
    • Translate — Click this button to open the Translate dialog, where you can enter coordinates for the new UCS or click Pick location to select the point in the graphics window.
    • Rotate — Click this button to open the Rotate dialog. Enter the rotation angle in degrees (positive or negative) about the X, Y, and/or Z axes.
    • Align — Click this button to open the Align UCS wizard.
    • Rename — Click this button to open the New UCS Name dialog, where you can enter a new Name for the UCS.
    • Reset — Click this button to make the UCS equivalent to the World Coordinate System.
  4. Click Close.
