About Finding and Healing Errors in Imported Data

You can check data during or after translation.

It is common to leverage imported data in part modeling. In some cases, downstream modeling tasks fail due to poor data quality. To identify solid or surface data that is poor, use Find Errors in the repair environment. (In the construction environment, use Quality Check.) To perform tolerance-based healing, use Heal Errors (not available in construction ).

Checking Data During Translation

You can translate data when it opens in Inventor. In the Import Options dialog, specify the data to import (surfaces, solids, or wires). You can also specify that the body is imported to the repair environment.

When you translate data, you can select an option to check for errors automatically. If the amount of data is large, this task can be lengthy. Clear the check mark to skip the check. You can check and repair the data after import. If you check the data during translation or check the option to import into the repair environment, the data is placed in the browser with an icon to indicate the results:

Note: In the construction environment, a solid icon without a checkmark or “i” symbol means that the data was not checked, and Inventor cannot determine whether errors exist.

In the construction environment, if Inventor finds errors, an error report log tells you which part document to examine.

Note: When Inventor finds one poor quality surface or solid in a part document during import, Inventor stops its analysis. When this occurs, find the remaining poor surfaces. In the repair environment, use the repair tools; in the construction environment, you must manually find the remaining poor surfaces in the part document.

Checking Data After Translation

After you translate data, you can use Find Errors (repair environment) or Quality Check (construction environment) to check for errors in topology, geometry, and modeling. You can recheck data after you make repairs.

In the repair environment, use Heal Errors to heal selected model bodies using the Allowable Change tolerance. Click Analyze Selected Bodies to preview the extent of the repairs using the current tolerance.

In the construction environment, use the Refit feature of the Quality Check command to repair bodies within a specified tolerance.
