About the Electrical Catalog Database

The Electrical Catalog Browser uses the catalog database file, default_cat.mdb, installed with AutoCAD Electrical. The default location of the database is C:\Users\{username}\Documents\Acade {version}\AeData\{language code}\Catalogs\. You can move the catalog database to a different location. You can also reference a different catalog database file; for example, a project-specific catalog database.

AutoCAD Electrical also supports SQL Server for your catalog data information. AutoCAD Electrical allows you to migrate your catalog data that is furnished with the default AutoCAD Electrical installation in a Microsoft Access database file. In the deployment mode, you can connect to your SQL Server instance, which needs to be created by your database or system administrator. For creating an SQL Server instance, use the Autodesk® Content Migration Utility for AutoCAD® Electrical, which is a tool that helps in creating and migrating your database from Access to SQL Server.

In the standalone mode, you can configure your SQL Server from the product. To do so, use the AECATALOGCONFIG command to bring up the Configure Database dialog box. This dialog box allows you to connect, after which you select your catalog and footprint databases on an SQL Server instance.

The Electrical Catalog Browser also supports a secondary database. For example, the primary database can contain the catalog information that you commonly use, and the secondary database can contain the full list of catalog content available with AutoCAD Electrical.

Click on the Electrical Catalog Browser to change the primary catalog database file and location, or to define a secondary catalog database.

Note: When you search for a catalog value, the Electrical Catalog Browser searches the primary or secondary database based on the selection in the Search Database drop-down menu.
