Cable and Harness

Cable and Harness workflow

In the Cable and Harness work environment, refer to this typical workflow for placing and creating harness objects in an assembly.

  1. Define electrical (pinned) parts, adding properties as needed.
  2. Edit and retrieve wire, cable, and ribbon cable definitions from a library.
  3. Open the Autodesk Inventor assembly file to wire or define routing paths.
  4. Import electrical connectivity wire lists (including cable wires) and other harness data as a .xml or .csv file.
  5. Place and constrain electrical parts in the assembly.
  6. Create the harness subassembly.
  7. Activate the cable and harness environment.
  8. Insert wires and cables into the harness assembly and attach them to connectors or splices.
  9. Create segments that define the possible wire paths through the assembly.
  10. Add properties to the segments and wires.
  11. Route wires and cables through selected segments.
  12. Create ribbon cables between connectors and adjust ribbon cable shape and direction.
  13. Optionally, attach virtual parts.
  14. Configure and generate reports of the harness assembly.
  15. Document the harness assembly, including connectors, in reports, drawings, and nailboard drawings.
