Change wall type properties to modify its structure, wrapping behavior, function, and more.

To change type properties, select an element and click Modify tabProperties panel (Type Properties). Changes to type properties apply to all instances in the project.

Name Description
Construction
Structure Click Edit to create compound walls. See Compound Structure.
Wrapping at Inserts Select either Do no wrap (default), Exterior, Interior, or Both. Sets the layer wrapping of walls at inserts. See Layer Wrapping.
Note: Wrapping is not supported for walls with a tapered cross section.

Note: Wrapping is not supported for walls with a tapered cross section.
Width Sets the width of the wall.
Function Categorizes the wall as Exterior, Interior, Retaining, Foundation, Soffit, or Core-shaft. Function is used in scheduling and to create filters that simplify a model for visibility or when exporting.

Wall function is also used when creating a gbXML export. (See About the Function of Walls, Floors, and Building Pads for gbXML Export.)

Cross Section Properties (Wall structure must have variable layer)
Default Exterior Angle Angle (from vertical) of the exterior wall face. Value can be overridden in the wall instance properties.
Default Interior Angle Angle (from vertical) of the interior wall face. Value can be overridden in the wall instance properties.
Width Measured At The position where the total width of the wall is measured.

Analytical Properties
Heat Transfer Coefficient (U) Used in calculating the heat transfer, typically by convection or phase change between a fluid and a solid.
Thermal Resistance (R) A measure of a temperature difference, by which an object, or material, resist a heat flow (heat per time unit or thermal resistance).
Absorptance A measure of the ability of an object to absorb radiation, equal to the ratio of the absorbed radiant flux to the incident flux.
Roughness A measure of the texture of a surface.
