Specify settings for duplicate search

Enables you to specify folders to be included in the duplicate search range.

IMPORTANT: Only Administrator and Configuration Administrator have permissions to configure Duplicate Search settings.

  1. In the Vault Settings dialog, Files tab, click Configure... in the part Geometry Duplicates Settings section.
  2. Make sure the Enable Duplicate Search box is checked.
Note: By default, duplicate search is enabled for new and existing vaults.

IMPORTANT: When you disable duplicate search, the previously indexed data is removed. If you enable it again, data needs to be re-indexed which may take same time depending on amount of indexed parts.

  3. Select the folders. Parts from the selected folder are indexed and included in the search for duplicates.
    Notes:
    • Subfolders are automatically included in the selection.
    • Only primary states are indexed. Click here to learn more about model states. Or, refer to Autodesk Inventor Help documentation for more information.
  4. Click to add a folder. If you do not have access to one or more selected folders, contact your administrator for help.
  5. If desired, click to remove a folder.
Note: If you remove a folder, all indexed data is removed also. When you enable it back, it may take some time before the data is indexed again.
  6. Click OK to generate the indexing jobs.

Note: Ensure that at least one Job Processor is logged into the Vault and processing the jobs. Once the jobs are processed successfully, the Dashboard will show information after refreshing it.

You can view the data about duplicate parts in the Duplicates Dashboard.

Note: When you disable Duplicate Search and then enable it again, only previously failed parts are indexed again, not all parts within the specified folder.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often are parts indexed?

Newly checked-in parts are automatically indexed.

Can I manually start the indexing process for newly checked-in parts?

No, indexing is automatically started by Vault Server.

Why were some parts not indexed?

Anytime you add a file to the folder selected for indexing, the indexing is started. If you add a large amount of data, it may take some time before files are indexed and ready for search. Check the Job Queue for more details.

There are cases when part files couldn't be indexed. Some of the possible reasons are:

Possible solutions include rebuilding all parts, or change Material or Mass of the part.

Why the Duplicate Dashboard isn't showing any result?

After selecting a folder to be indexed, Vault creates jobs to create indexes for the files in the folder. The Job Processor may not be running or has not yet handled the jobs. You need to ensure that at least one Job Processor is logged into the Vault and processing the Jobs. Once the jobs are processed successfully, the Dashboard will show information after refreshing it.

For large folders that are chosen to be indexed for Duplicate Search, consider dedicating a Job Processor machine where only specific jobs are enabled.

Why it isn't possible to index folders (not compatible server version)?

If folders aren't indexed, check your server version. Only 2020.2 and newer support Duplicate Search. You need to upgrade the server to a 2020.2 version or later, before you can configure the folders for indexing to view the data.

Why can't I add folders so they will be indexed?

Some folders may have a limited access set by your administrator and you cannot select them for indexing. You need to contact your administrator for help.

Is indexing performed on all modal states?

No, only primary states are indexed.
