It is possible for different components with the same part number to appear at the same level in the BOM. In this case, quantities are summed together and properties that do not match are reported as Varies in the BOM.
- On the ribbon, select the Assemble tab

- Optionally, do one of the following to change the table display:
- Click Sort Items.
- Click Renumber Items.
- Click Choose Columns to add more properties to the table.
- Click Add Custom iProperty Columns to add iProperties to the table.
- Click BOM Settings to access controls to Hide Suppressed components in BOM and Automatically number items sequentially.
- Drag column headers to change the display order.
- Drag a column header below the heading area to remove it from the table.
- Select the Model Data tab to display a view equivalent to the assembly browser without item numbers. This display cannot be reported in a Parts List.
- Select the Structured tab to display a BOM view that can be reported in a Parts List. Right-click to enable.
- Select the Parts Only tab to display all parts with no assembly structure that can be reported in a Parts List. Right-click to enable.
- To edit a BOM cell:
- Select the BOM cell and enter a new value. If the field is an iProperty, the value is written to the iProperties of the source file when saved.
- Double-click an entry in the BOM Structure column to enable the structure drop list.
- Optionally, right-click one or more cells to open the selected components in separate new windows.
- Optionally, right-click a cell and do one of the following:
- Use Copy or Paste.
- Select Capitalize to capitalize all text in the selected field.
- Select Find (or Replace) and then set the options in the dialog box.
- Click Done to finish.
Note: Select a BOM cell to highlight the component in the browser and graphic window.
Work with Suppressed components
A suppressed component does not participate in the Bill of Materials and appears as a 0 QTY in the following Model States:
- The Master model state in a migrated Level of Detail.
- The default [Primary] model state in a new file.
- A new model state that is not a substitute.
To remove 0 QTY items from the BOM display, click BOM Settings and enable Hide Suppressed components in BOM. You can also enable or disable Automatically number items sequentially.
Tip: You can copy and paste a BOM selection to Microsoft Excel for editing. After editing, copy and paste the data back to the BOM table if the selection is identical to the original.
Tip: You can select multiple adjacent or non-adjacent cells and use the Delete key to delete their contents.
What is BOM delegation? The BOM delegation message appears when the active model state meets one of the following conditions:
- The model state is a migrated non-Master Level of Detail.
- The model state is a migrated substitute part LOD.
- The model state is a substitute part file.
The BOM for a substitute uses the model state of the source assembly. The BOM for a migrated non-Master LOD and a migrated LOD substitute uses the Master model state Bill of Materials.
Tip: You can edit the BOM of a migrated Master LOD. You cannot edit the BOM of a migrated non-master LOD. If you want to edit the BOM of a migrated LOD, create a copy of the model state and then edit the copy. Optionally, keep the editable copy and delete the migrated model state.
BOM and Instance Properties
Instance properties are properties assigned to individual component instances that are stored in the parent assembly. Unlike iProperties, instance properties don't affect the referenced component files. To learn how to work with instance properties using the BOM dialog box, see To Work with Instance Properties.
